The Cumberland Valley Schutzhund Association originated in Lyle and Debbie Roetemeyer’s backyard in 1987. We hosted our trials at Montgomery Bell State Park. In 1990, training moved to Dickson Police Department Shooting range. In 1993, Sonny Culwell, invited the club to train on six acres of his horse pasture. Our club developed the six acres of horse pasture into a great schutzhund field.
Thanks to the city of Dickson, we are now training on a football field behind Buckner Park.
We changed our name to the Cumberland Valley Schutzhund and Police Club with respect to the several police officers that have been or currently members or our club. Our club’s goal is to promote responsible dog ownership, and the use of Schutzhund as a tool for the betterment of working dogs, especially the German Shepherd Dog. Most of our club members start with puppies and train towards their Schutzhund goals. While most of the dogs in the club are German Shepherd Dogs, we have enjoyed helping our fellow members reach their goals with Rottweilers, Dobermans, Boxers, Giant Schnauzers, Standard Schnauzers, American Bulldogs, Belgian Malinois, Cane Corsos, one Miniature Schnauzer, one Golden Retriever and one mixed breed. Nine of our members have made it to the SchH3 Club at least once. We have had three of our club helpers selected as trial helpers for combined ten Mid-Eastern Regional Championships. Three of our club helpers have been selected as helpers at four National Events. Our club members have competed with their dogs at Regional Championships and three of our members have competed at National Events. Cumberland Valley Schutzhund and Police Club has been honored to host the 1996 and 2001 Mid-East Regional Championships, the 2002 Mid-East Conformation Championship, 2002 USA German Shepherd Dog Championship, the 1999 USA World Qualifier, the 2004 USA Sieger Show and the 2004 German Shepherd Dog National Championship, the 2005 AWDF Championship, the 2006 H.O.T. Championship, 2006 Youth and Obedience Championship, 2009 Working Dog Championship, 2009 Youth and Obedience Championship. We are happy to have you visit us and hope you enjoy your stay here!
